Certification personnel
ICBC–authorized driver certification facilities must use qualified instructors and qualified assessment officers to train and assess students enrolled in their certification training program.
Eligibility
To become a certification trainer or assessment officer, you must meet all applicable eligibility requirements.
Steps to become a certification trainer
1. Add new trainers to the program.
The certification facility must contact driver training administrative support (DTAS) by email at [email protected] to add new trainers to their program.
2. Receive approval.
If the applicant is approved, ICBC will issue formal written approval to the facility, which will confirm the certification trainer can begin training under the certification agreements program.
Steps to become a certification assessment officer
1. Request an assessment officer application.
If you meet the eligibility above, request an application by email at [email protected] or by phone at 1-866-339-0363.
2. Complete and submit the application.
Submit your completed application and required proof of experience to DTAS by email (PDF only), mail, or courier.

3. Complete evaluations.
If your application is approved, you will receive written approval to schedule your evaluation with an ICBC driving school inspector (DSI). The inspector will provide comments and may give suggestions for improvement.
4. Receive approval.
After successfully passing the evaluation, you will receive written results from your evaluating DSI, and an original Assessment Officer Certificate of Qualification (AOCQ) with approved designations by mail. Note that processing time vary throughout the year.
When you receive your AOCQ, you can begin conducting assessments and certifying drivers at an ICBC-authorized driver certification facility.
